If we asked people to share information with the world and we asked the world to share that information with us, what would it look like?
A small spark of an idea quickly became a passion project into how we can visualize the social transfer of information in the real world.
Thirty books were purchased for the project. Each book is fitted with a printed insert that contains information about the project and instructions for participation. As people share their information with The Passed Words Project, it is compiled and uploaded to a custom version of Google Maps. Then we can visualize how these books travel across the world.
This project relies on honest, user-based submissions once released into the wild. To make this experiment as interesting as possible, we have attempted to restrict any abuse and withhold the right to remove any data or information that would be considered harmful to the overall integrity of the project.
